Reproduction
Our veterinarians are happy to assist you in bringing a new life into your barn.
We offer ambulatory and haul-in reproductive services. Our skilled veterinarians are happy to perform palpation and ultrasounds to help with a successful breeding season. Artificial insemination is now commonplace in equine veterinary medicine and can be rather intimidating for owners. Our knowledgeable staff is here to help manage her to optimize your mare’s chance of getting in foal. Our veterinarians can evaluate follicle growth, determine appropriate breeding time, insemination of cooled semen and assessment of any potential complications.
Frozen semen has a much shorter lifespan than fresh or cooled semen. Because of this limitation, we refer these cases to specialized reproductive veterinarians that can facilititate in-house boarding services and coordinate with your LEC veterinarian. It is imperative that frozen semen be inseminated as close to ovulation as possible. Mares should have a follicle exam multiple times throughout the day and night. As such, in house services are recommended for more involved procedures such as frozen semen monitoring, embryo transfer, and for clients who live longer distances from the clinic.
Additionally, once your foal is born, our staff is here to help ensure the health of both your neonate and mare. It is important to perform a complete exam on both the foal as well as the mare to detect and prevent complications. Our veterinarians are equipped to ensure the health of your horses as well as treat complications that may arise.
